VISIT GALWAY – AN ESCAPE BOATS GUIDE
Galway is the gateway to Connemara and the West of Ireland, a thriving metropolis of nearly 100,000 people, it’s one of Ireland’s most visited cities. Renowned for it’s legendary pubs, and live music, it also has the dubious title of the 7th most congested city in Europe, so try and use public transport, one of the free city bikes or your trusty feet to get around. The city centre is small and very walkable, with a plethora of sights and attractions to keep you entertained.

STAY
If you’re visiting Galway, here’s some handy tips for some of our favourite accommodation spots – if we didn’t live here, we’d stay with them too. They’re sound!

Seastay Galway
Stay on beautifully refurbished boats in the heat of Galway city, right beside us in the Old Dock. Wonderful, friendly hosts and get to have a stay with a difference in boats that have been refurbished by our expert team, each one with a different flair.
The Herons Rest 16a The Long Walk
Gorgeous boutique accommodation on the banks of the Corrib, two minutes’ walk from Escape Boats Galway. Really friendly and wonderful owner who is a good pal of the crew of our boats – it’s a special spot and if you don’t believe us, just check their reviews. Top notch!

The Harbour Hotel
If you are a diehard hotel fan and you’re just looking for a good quality hotel the 4-star hotel across the water from Escape Boats Galway is a good bet. They have beds, bathrooms, bars and probably a few other things beginning with B too, but we’ve run out of space to write them….
EAT

Ard Bia
One of Galway’s most enduring restaurants in one of the most iconic buildings in the city. Amazing food, wonderful staff and a warm atmosphere – one of our staff favourites. And only a couple of minutes’ walk from your game on the Escape Boat.
Rúibín
Great locally sourced food and drink in a beautiful building on the quayside, 2 minutes’ walk from Escape Boats. Another one of our favourites, with sound staff and a great atmosphere to boot. We love them.

McDonaghs
Has been serving fish and chips since 1902 – one of the best chippers in town. 5 minutes’ walk from the Escape Boat, it’s a cheap, cheerful and quick feed on the main street in Galway, Shop Street.
ENTERTAINMENT

GALWAY CITY MUSEUM
Galway’s main museum, you can discover the rich history of Galway’s archaeology and culture – for free! One of the great perks of Ireland is that all the national museums and Galleries have no entrance free – so what have you got to lose? And it’s only a few hundred meters from our Escape Boat.
GALWAY MARKET
On Saturdays from around 8am, there’s a great food and craft market in the city centre. You’ll find our crew there every week gobbling up everything they can and buying their supplies for the week. Great craic and great food – everything from fresh oysters to authentic Indian curries. It’s located around Lombard Street near St Nicholas Church. Don’t miss it.
